One hundred (100) freshly trained Aviation Security (AVSEC) officers formally joined the national service, following a transparent recruitment process free of political influence.
According to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the Passing Out Parade, held under the patronage of Deputy Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation Janitha Ruwan Kodithuwakku, showcased the discipline, teamwork, leadership skills, and professional readiness of the recruits.
Physical fitness and special drill displays highlighted the rigorous training undertaken by the officers before their induction into Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Company’s security division.
Deputy Minister Kodithuwakku, addressing the ceremony, stated that the appointments were made solely on merit, underscoring the government’s commitment to ensuring “a suitable opportunity for the suitable candidate.” He noted that the recruitment reflects the administration’s policy of fairness and equal opportunity in state employment.
“This is not merely a job opportunity but a national responsibility,” the Deputy Minister said, stressing the importance of safeguarding Sri Lanka’s primary international gateway. He highlighted the officers’ role in reinforcing national security, passenger safety, and international confidence in the country’s aviation system.
The event also spotlighted ongoing development in the aviation sector. The Deputy Minister announced that the first passenger terminal at Bandaranaike International Airport will undergo expansion under a Rs. 15 billion investment over the next two years, while construction of the second terminal is set to recommence by year’s end. These projects, he said, will further enhance the airport’s capacity and efficiency.
The ceremony was attended by senior officials including the Chairman and Vice Chairman of Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Company, the Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority, the Director of Civil Aviation Security, training instructors, and distinguished guests.
