Sri Lanka is poised to strengthen its tourism performance through enhanced international air connectivity, with improved airline services expected to play a key role in achieving the country’s tourism revenue targets, according to Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) Chairman Buddhika Hewawasam.
Hewawasam said Sri Lanka could attract around 200,000 visitors per month with stronger airline connectivity, including 75,000 to 100,000 high-spending Indian travellers, significantly boosting tourism earnings.
He also revealed that Swiss airlines, carriers from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) region, and Polish airlines have confirmed the early launch of their winter charter flight operations to Sri Lanka. The additional seasonal services are expected to strengthen air connectivity during the peak winter travel season and attract a higher number of international visitors.
The expansion of winter charter operations is expected to further enhance Sri Lanka’s accessibility from key European and regional tourism markets, supporting the country’s efforts to increase visitor arrivals and tourism revenue.
