A flight attendant has survived in what is being described as a “total miracle” after being thrown from an Air Canada aircraft during a fatal ground collision at New York’s LaGuardia Airport.
The incident involved an Air Canada Express CRJ-900 arriving from Montreal, which collided with an airport fire truck while on or near the runway. The impact caused severe damage to the aircraft and resulted in the deaths of both pilots, while several passengers and crew members sustained injuries.
Amid the devastation, the survival of one flight attendant has drawn widespread attention. The experienced crew member was reportedly ejected from the aircraft while still secured in her jump seat, landing a considerable distance from the wreckage. Despite the severity of the incident, she survived with multiple injuries and is currently receiving treatment, with an expected recovery.
Her daughter described the survival as a “total miracle,” highlighting the extraordinary circumstances that allowed her to live through the crash. Aviation experts have pointed to the aircraft’s reinforced jump seat and four-point harness system as key factors that may have helped absorb the impact and protect the crew member.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the collision, with early reports suggesting that a possible miscommunication between ground vehicles and air traffic control may have contributed to the accident.
The incident has once again raised concerns over ground safety procedures at busy international airports, as officials work to determine the exact cause of the crash.
