A temporary second terminal is to be constructed at the Bandaranaike International Airport inorder to encompass the accelerating amount of the tourists, Minister of Ports and Aviation Nimal Siripala De Silva said.
He further declared that JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) grant to build a second terminal is paused till the completion of the debt restructuring process. The reason for this grant to be halted is due to the bankruptcy of the country and as per the promise given by JICA, the project will resume once the completion of the debt restructuring process.
Furthermore, the second terminal is being built with the estimation of 6 billion rupees. According to the minister, the terminal will be opened by the mid of February.
