Sri Lanka is exploring the introduction of passenger drone technology with a demonstration flight planned around Port City Colombo on 11 November 2026.
The initiative was discussed at the Ministry of Defence on 22 October, at a meeting chaired by Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd.) with the participation of senior Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL) officials and representatives of Chinese technology company EHang Holdings.
The proposed electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL) technology could support urban air mobility, tourism and logistics, while creating new aerial transport experiences for local and international visitors.
The planned demonstration will showcase the technology’s potential applications in Sri Lanka.
