Foreign woman dies as paramotor aircraft crashes into sea

An Arabic woman travelling in a paramotor aircraft operated for tourist recreation in the Bentota tourism zone died when the craft crashed into the sea, according to the Bentota Police.

The incident occurred today (29) around 4.30 p.m. in front of the Presidential Holiday Resort located at Beach Road, Bentota, within the Bentota police division, police noted.

The aircraft, belonging to a private company and used to take tourists on aerial tours, crashed into the sea due to a technical fault.

The pilot and an Arabic woman were on board at the time of the incident, and although the pilot survived, the woman fell into the sea with the aircraft and went missing, reports indicated.

The body of the missing woman who drowned was subsequently found in the Bentota area, and arrangements were made to send the body to the Kalutara Teaching Hospital, police stated. (Hiru News)
