Sri Lanka is set to strengthen its international air connectivity this winter, with several foreign airlines preparing to launch services to the island, according to Deputy Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation Janitha Ruwan Kodithuwakku.
The Deputy Minister said Vietnam Airlines, VietJet, Jetstar, British Airways, Belavia and French Bee are planning to commence operations to Sri Lanka, further expanding the country’s global aviation network.
Meanwhile, Turkish Airlines, Emirates and Qatar Airways have already increased their flight frequencies to Colombo, while discussions are continuing with S7 Airlines and Centrum Air regarding potential future services. Edelweiss Air is also scheduled to resume its seasonal flights to Sri Lanka from October, as it did last year.
The Deputy Minister further stated that Sri Lanka is on track for a strong year as the country’s aviation sector continues its steady recovery. During the first half of 2026, Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) recorded impressive operational growth, handling 4,748,481 passenger movements and 30,659 aircraft movements. Aviation Voice
According to the Deputy Minister, the addition of new international airlines and increased frequencies by existing carriers are expected to significantly enhance Sri Lanka’s air connectivity, increase seat capacity, provide more travel options for passengers and further support the country’s tourism and aviation recovery during the upcoming winter season.
