Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) Handles Nearly 4.75 Million Passengers During January-June 2026

Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) recorded strong operational performance during the first half of 2026, handling 4,748,481 passenger movements between January and June, according to Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) – AASL.

During the six-month period, the country’s main international gateway also recorded 30,659 aircraft movements and 424,856 transit passenger movements, reflecting continued growth in aviation activity and regional connectivity.

The airport’s performance coincided with Sri Lanka welcoming 1,146,573 tourist arrivals during the first half of 2026, highlighting the important role BIA continues to play in supporting the country’s tourism recovery and economic growth.

Airport and Aviation Services stated that BIA remains a key gateway connecting people, cultures and business opportunities while contributing significantly to the development of Sri Lanka’s aviation and tourism sectors.
