Sri Lanka Marks 78 Years as a Member State of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)

Sri Lanka today commemorated 78 years of membership in the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), marking the country’s signing of the historic Chicago Convention on 1 June 1948.

The milestone reflects Sri Lanka’s continued commitment to strengthening global aviation cooperation, safety and regulatory standards. Over the years, the country has further enhanced its aviation safety oversight system while maintaining its reputation as a trusted ICAO Member State.

Appreciation was also extended to the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka staff and all industry stakeholders for their contributions towards building a safe, secure and sustainable aviation sector throughout the past 78 years.
