Sri Lanka welcomed 129,226 tourists in the first 17 days of August, marking an 18.4% increase from 109,159 visitors during the same period last year, according to the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority. This pushed cumulative arrivals to 1,497,514 by August 17, with the 1.5 million milestone crossed on August 18.
Daily arrivals are averaging 7,602, suggesting a full-month forecast of around 235,700 visitors. If achieved, this would surpass last year’s 164,609 arrivals and challenge the all-time August record of 200,359 set in 2018.
