Türkiye offers to sell military drones to Lanka

The Government of Türkiye has offered to supply military drones to Sri Lanka as part of efforts to strengthen defence cooperation between the two countries, with the systems primarily intended for maritime surveillance.

Speaking at an event marking the tenth anniversary of Türkiye’s failed coup attempt, held at the Bandaranaike International Diplomatic Training Institute, Türkiye’s Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Dr. Semih Lütfü Turgut, said the embassy is arranging for Turkish defence experts to visit Colombo and brief Sri Lankan military officials on the capabilities of Türkiye’s drone technology.

The Ambassador also highlighted Türkiye’s commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation with Sri Lanka in areas including trade, culture, education, and defence.

On foreign policy, Dr. Turgut said Türkiye continues to pursue an independent and strategically autonomous approach while maintaining its role as a NATO member. He added that Türkiye remains engaged with both Ukraine and Russia, emphasizing dialogue and diplomacy to help create common ground for resolving the ongoing conflict.
