Sri Lanka’s tourism sector has crossed the 850,000 visitor mark in 2026, with total arrivals reaching 858,527 as of 26 April 2026, according to the latest data.
India continues to lead as the top source market, accounting for the highest number of tourist arrivals so far this year. Other notable contributors include the United Kingdom, Australia, China and Russia, maintaining a diverse mix of regional and long-haul visitors.
April recorded 117,893 arrivals, reflecting moderate monthly performance. However, industry observers note that overall momentum has shown signs of softening in recent weeks, partly attributed to ongoing Middle East tensions, indicating a more uneven trend compared to earlier expectations.
