Etihad orders 28 jets, including 777X and 787, as Boeing clinches second gulf deal on Trump’s tour

US manufacturer Boeing has secured its second aircraft order linked directly to US President Donald Trump’s four-day tour of the Persian Gulf.
After President Trump landed in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on May 15, 2024, the White House announced that Etihad Airways, one of the country’s flag carriers, had placed an order for 28 widebody aircraft.
Under the $14.5 billion agreement, Etihad has agreed to purchase a mix of Boeing 787 Dreamliners and 777Xs, powered by GE Aerospace engines.
A spokesperson for the White House said: “With the inclusion of the next generation 777X in its fleet plan, the investment deepens the longstanding commercial aviation partnership between the UAE and the United States, fueling American manufacturing, driving exports, and supporting 60,000 U.S. jobs.”
