De Havilland Canada delivers 1,000th DHC-6 Twin Otter, first introduced in 1966

De Havilland Canada has marked a historic milestone with the delivery of its 1,000th DHC-6 Twin Otter, underscoring the aircraft’s enduring legacy in global aviation.
The milestone aircraft, which recently completed its first flight, is scheduled to be delivered to Colombian carrier SATENA. First introduced in 1966, the Twin Otter has become one of the most versatile and reliable turboprop aircraft in the world, known for its exceptional short takeoff and landing (STOL) performance and its ability to operate in remote and challenging environments.
Over the decades, the aircraft has been widely used for passenger transport, cargo operations, medical evacuations, and special missions across more than 100 countries. Continued production of modern variants, including the Series 400 and the new Classic 300-G, reflects sustained global demand for the type.
Meanwhile, Trans Maldivian Airways (TMA) remains the largest operator of the Twin Otter worldwide, with a fleet of 66 DHC-6 aircraft supporting extensive seaplane operations across the Maldives.
Sri Lanka’s Ceylon Aeronautical Services (CAS) is widely recognized across the Asia-Pacific region for its expertise in maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services for the De Havilland Twin Otter aircraft.
