An Air Canada Express flight arriving from Montreal was involved in a ground collision with an airport vehicle at New York’s LaGuardia Airport on Monday (March 23), according to reports by Reuters and flight-tracking data from FlightRadar24.
The aircraft, identified as a CRJ-900 operating as Air Canada Express Flight AC8646, reportedly collided with a fire truck while on or near runway 04/22 shortly after landing. The New York Fire Department confirmed that emergency crews responded immediately to the incident.
The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a ground stop for all flights at LaGuardia Airport until 05:30 GMT, citing an emergency situation and indicating a high likelihood of further extensions. In a separate notice to airmen, the FAA also suggested that airport operations could be suspended until 18:00 GMT.
Authorities have not yet released detailed information regarding the cause of the collision or confirmed reports of injuries. Unverified images circulating on social media appear to show damage to the aircraft’s nose; however, these have not been officially confirmed. (Foreign Media)
