Airport authorities urge people: Kite flying near Jaffna Airport poses aviation risk

Authorities have warned that flying kites near the airport poses a serious risk to aircraft operations and have urged residents to refrain from such activities in surrounding areas.

Notices carrying the advisory have been displayed in communities around the airport, including Kankesanthurai, Mavittapuram, Varthalai Villan, Palali, and Mayiladuthurai. Announcements have also been made through loudspeakers to alert residents. The warning follows reports that a flight arriving from Chennai to Jaffna last week encountered difficulties due to kites in the air. The aircraft was able to land safely, averting what could have been a major accident.
