A Historic Return: British Airways Lands in Colombo After 10 Years

British Airways has officially resumed flights to Sri Lanka after a decade, with its inaugural flight arriving at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Katunayake on 24 October 2026.

Operating as BA2045, the Boeing 777-200ER arrived from London Gatwick Airport, marking a significant milestone in air connectivity between Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom.

The return of British Airways is expected to strengthen Sri Lanka’s air links with the UK, one of the country’s key tourism markets, while providing greater travel connectivity for tourists, business travellers and the Sri Lankan diaspora.

The resumption also represents a positive development for Sri Lanka’s tourism industry, with renewed direct air connectivity between London Gatwick and Colombo expected to offer more travel options for passengers travelling between the two destinations.

Advantis Aviation Services, a member of Sri Lanka’s Hayleys Group, serves as the General Sales Agent (GSA) for British Airways in Sri Lanka.
