Vipul Misra Set to Be Appointed New CEO of SriLankan Airlines

Vipul Misra, who currently serves as Head of Engineering and Accountable Manager at SriLankan Airlines, is set to be appointed as the airline’s new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), according to internal sources.

Misra joined SriLankan Airlines in 2024 and brings extensive experience in aircraft engineering and senior aviation management.

Prior to joining SriLankan Airlines, Misra built his career across several leading Indian carriers, including Air India, SpiceJet, Vistara and IndiGo, holding senior positions in engineering and management.

His expected appointment comes at a critical time for SriLankan Airlines, as the national carrier prepares to enter a major restructuring phase. Misra is expected to lead the airline through the restructuring period and oversee the transition. Aviation Voice

The appointment is expected to bring an engineering-led perspective to the airline’s senior leadership at a time when operational efficiency, financial sustainability and organisational restructuring are among the key priorities facing SriLankan Airlines.

The Government has already initiated steps towards a strategic review and restructuring of the national carrier. In July, the Cabinet approved the appointment of a special committee, headed by Presidential Senior Adviser on the Digital Economy Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya, to oversee the strategic review and restructuring process.

Deputy Minister of Civil Aviation Janitha Ruwan Kodithuwakku had previously stated that the restructuring of SriLankan Airlines was expected to commence within six months, following recommendations from the expert committee appointed by the Government.
