China’s homegrown C919 aircraft completes 1st int’l commercial flight, lands in Mongolian capital

An Air China COMAC C919 flight has successfully landed in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, marking the first time the Chinese narrowbody has completed a non-domestic passenger flight.

COMAC, also known as the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, will be hoping that the flight will signal to potential customers the aircraft’s increased capabilities.

Since the first aircraft was delivered to China Eastern Airlines in 2022, the aircraft type has only operated on domestic routes.

The C919 was meant to be China’s answer to Boeing’s 737 MAX and Airbus’ A320neo but the delivery figures tell a different story. So far, COMAC has delivered less than 40 C919s, according to ch-aviation.

COMAC’s current customers include Air China, China Eastern Airlines and China Southern Airlines.
