Ethiopia and the Maldives have signed a Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA), paving the way for direct air connectivity between the two countries while opening new opportunities for Ethiopian Airlines’ international network expansion.
The agreement grants Ethiopian Airlines Fifth Freedom traffic rights via the Maldives, allowing the carrier to operate onward services to several destinations, including Colombo, Singapore, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Perth, Sydney, Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington.
The agreement is expected to strengthen trade, tourism, investment, and aviation connectivity between Ethiopia and the Maldives, while further expanding Ethiopian Airlines’ presence across Asia and Oceania.
