Illuminating Spirituality & Synergy at BIA: CALCA Hosts Historic Dharma Deshana and Dansala for the Second Consecutive Year

The Customer Airlines Cargo Association (CALCA) successfully hosted a solemn Buddhist Sermon (Dharma Deshana) and a community Ice Cream Dansala at the Cargo Village of Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) on 26 June 2026.

The inspiring Dharma Deshana was delivered by Ven. Henduwawe Dhammadeepa Thero, transforming a fast-paced sector of the Cargo Terminal into a serene sanctuary for reflection and meditation that accommodated hundreds of airport personnel.

This historic gathering was graced by the esteemed presence of the

  • Capt. Daminda Rambukwella (Director General of Civil Aviation & Chief Executive Office)
  • Mr. Chaminda Perera (Head of Cargo, SriLankan Airlines Ltd.)
  • Mr. Rajatha Medawewa (Head of Air Freight Management & Cargo, AASL)
  • Mr. W. A. D. B. Thushara (Senior Manager Worldwide Cargo Operations, SriLankan Airlines Ltd.)
  • Mr. Ubhaya Arewatte (Cargo Manager Standards and Procedures – Cargo Operations, SriLankan Airlines Ltd.)
  • Mr. Janaka Wijepathirathna (Chairman, Sri Lanka Nidahas Sevaka Sangamaya – SLNSS)
  • Mr. Jude Milan Siyambalapitiya (Cargo Manager, Leisure Cargo Lanka)
  • Mrs. Samadhi Uluwita (Head of Operations and Finance, Forbes Air Services Pvt Ltd)
  • Mrs. Nimali Perera (General Manager, M&C Aviation)

The distinguished guests were joined by the senior operations managers of CALCA’s member airlines and Freight Forwarding Agencies, executive AASL airport management, and a vast gathering of frontline air cargo premises staff. Representatives from SriLankan Airlines, AASL, Sri Lanka Customs, the Plant & Animal Quarantine Authorities, and various other airport stakeholders stood side-by-side to participate in this meritorious evening.

Marking a joyous conclusion to the spiritual campaign, CALCA organized an open-to-all Ice Cream Dansala for the second time, cooling down the evening by distributing over 1,500 ice pops to hard-working personnel within the cargo vicinity.
