IATA and CAASL Discuss Aviation Safety, Sustainability and Regulatory Priorities

Representatives of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) recently met with the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL) to discuss key priorities affecting the country’s aviation sector.

The meeting, held at CAASL headquarters, brought together Capt. Daminda Rambukwella, Director General of Civil Aviation and Chief Executive Officer of CAASL, with Mr. Azhar Ansari, IATA Area Manager – South Asia and Mr. Buddhika Hewawasam, IATA Industry Affairs Manager – Sri Lanka.

Discussions focused on several areas of strategic importance, including the implementation of Dangerous Goods Regulations, strengthening aviation safety standards, the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA), and the effective application of economic regulations within Sri Lanka’s civil aviation industry.

The engagement highlighted the ongoing collaboration between CAASL and IATA and their shared commitment to supporting the safe, secure, sustainable, and orderly growth of civil aviation in Sri Lanka in line with international standards and best practices.

Senior CAASL officials, including Mr. Rayhan Wanniappa, Deputy Director General (Air Transport and Security Regulation) and Mr. Asanga Liyanarachchi, Director (Air Transport and Economic Regulations), also attended the meeting.
