‘Air Ceilao’ Founder and Chairman Janith Kashan Enters Politics with SLPP

The Chairman and Founder of Air Ceilao, Janith Kashan, has recently entered party politics by aligning with the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), following reports of a large political gathering he hosted.

Air Ceilao previously generated significant public attention in 2024, positioning itself as Sri Lanka’s second private airline and announcing ambitious plans to commence operations. The airline actively promoted its launch and even initiated early-stage recruitment campaigns through newspaper advertisements, including opportunities for cabin crew, during its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) process.

Sources also indicated that Janith Kashan, an entrepreneur, maintained close connections with Thambapanni Distilleries.

However, despite the extensive publicity and initial momentum, the airline has yet to materialize its operations, with no clear progress reported since the initial announcements.

Note from Aviation Voice

As of now, there have been no official updates regarding the progress or operational status of Air Ceilao. Its website appears to be inactive and its office is reportedly closed.

Sri Lanka’s aviation landscape has seen similar instances before, including the case of Peace Air in 2018, where initial momentum failed to translate into operations.
