The “Fly for Peace” kite-flying event was successfully held on 20 April 2026 at Galle Face Green, drawing families, professionals and children for a symbolic gathering centred on peace and unity.
Organised under the theme “Fly for Peace,” the event brought together participants from diverse cultural backgrounds, who filled the Colombo skyline with colourful kites while sharing the message: ‘Air is not for war – Air is to breathe’. The initiative created an engaging and inclusive environment, particularly encouraging youth participation through a simple yet meaningful outdoor activity.
The programme began with introductions by key organisers:
Capt. Harsha Govinda Koralearachchi – Concept Developer and Founder of Ravana Aviation and Ravana Aviation Kite Association
Mr. Stafen – Founder of Aloka Sanna
Mr. Sanath Pilapitiya – Vice President of Ravana Aviation Kite Association
The event was organised by the World Peace Movement with support from Air Cradle.
The organising bodies included the Ravana Aviation Kite Association (RAKA), Sri Lanka and Aloka Sanna.
Organisers stated that the initiative aligns with a broader vision to establish a globally recognised movement promoting peace through cultural expression, community participation, and international collaboration. Key objectives include fostering global peace through creative engagement, inspiring youth involvement in peace-building efforts, positioning Sri Lanka as a global peace destination and encouraging international partnerships.
