India Remains SriLankan Airlines’ Largest Market with 30% Share

SriLankan Airlines has identified India as its single largest market, accounting for nearly 30% of the airline’s total passenger traffic, underscoring the strong and growing air connectivity between the two countries.

At present, the national carrier operates around 90 flights per week between India and Sri Lanka, serving major cities including Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Kochi, Trivandrum, Madurai and Tiruchirappalli. The airline is expected to further strengthen its Indian network from early 2026, with Ahmedabad set to become its 10th destination in India.

India also remains Sri Lanka’s top source market for tourism, contributing approximately 23% of total tourist arrivals to the island. In addition, nearly 30% of Indian passengers transit through Colombo when traveling onward to destinations beyond Sri Lanka.

Leveraging its Colombo hub, SriLankan Airlines offers seamless connections to the Middle East, Maldives, Far East, Europe and Australia, operated either by its own fleet or through partner airlines under codeshare arrangements, reinforcing Colombo’s role as a key regional transit hub.
