Russia’s Red Wings Airlines has commenced winter flight operations to Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA), operating six weekly flights with a Boeing 777-200. The inaugural flight arrived on October 28 with 402 tourists and was greeted with a water cannon salute. The service, supported by Aitken Spence Travels and Tropical Aviation Services (GSA), will continue through April 2026, highlighting Sri Lanka’s growing popularity among Russian travellers. Belavia Airlines has also resumed flights to MRIA this winter season.
