Katunayake Airport Police report that a Saudi Arabian national who was a passenger on a SriLankan Airlines flight from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to Katunayake Airport, was arrested today (26) for allegedly assaulting two female flight attendants on board.
The suspect is a 28-year-old Saudi national who was reportedly travelling on this flight to reach Katunayake Airport and then proceed to Malaysia.
He arrived at the Katunayake Airport this morning (26) at 6:32 AM on SriLankan Airlines flight UL-266 from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Initial investigations conducted by the Katunayake Airport Police revealed that the confrontation occurred as the aircraft was preparing to land at Katunayake Airport.
It is mandatory for all passengers to be seated with their seatbelts fastened during this phase.
The conflict arose when this passenger violated the rule and attempted to walk towards the lavatory, despite the requirement.
Following the incident, the flight attendants informed the pilot.
After the plane landed, police officers who approached the aircraft arrested the Saudi national.
The Katunayake Airport Police and the Katunayake Airport Tourist Police are jointly holding the suspect and conducting further investigations.
The suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (27).
