President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, presenting the 2025 Budget in Parliament, announced that the government will allocate Rs. 20 billion to settle the outstanding debt of the national carrier, SriLankan Airlines.
As part of the financial plan, Rs. 10 billion will be set aside for loan capital repayment in 2025, while another Rs. 10 billion will be allocated for interest payments.
The President emphasized that once these legacy debt service costs are addressed, SriLankan Airlines will be solely responsible for maintaining its operational profitability, ensuring financial sustainability in the future.
