Captain Nuwan Gunaratne and Jayani C. Senanayake represented Sri Lanka at the Asia Pacific Aviation Training Summit (APATS) 2026 in Bangkok, sharing their expertise on pilot and aircraft maintenance training.
Gunaratne, Chief Pilot Training Organisation at SriLankan Airlines, presented an approach to instructor standardisation and competency development, while also participating in a panel discussion on instructor training and the ab initio aviation training sector.
Senanayake, Marketing & Business Development Manager at SriLankan Aviation College (SLAC), highlighted the importance of practical, competency-based aircraft maintenance training in bridging the gap between technical knowledge and real-world operational performance.
Organized by Halldale Group from 31 August to 2 September, APATS 2026 brought together aviation training professionals, regulators, industry leaders and solution providers from across the Asia-Pacific region under the theme “Rethinking Airline Training.”
