TAASL Elects Chamila Wijethunge as New President at 51st AGM in Kathmandu

The Travel Agents Association of Sri Lanka (TAASL) has elected Ms. Chamila Wijethunge of Acorn Travels (Pvt) Ltd as its new President at the Association’s 51st Annual General Meeting (AGM), held on 17 September 2026, at the Dusit Princess Hotel in Kathmandu, Nepal.

The AGM brought together representatives from more than 50 TAASL member companies, along with aviation and tourism industry stakeholders from Sri Lanka and Nepal.

Ms. Wijethunge becomes only the second woman to serve as President of TAASL in the Association’s more than five-decade history. In her inaugural address, she highlighted the importance of unity, collaboration and maintaining strong relationships across Sri Lanka’s travel trade industry.

The event was attended by Her Excellency Ruwanthi Delpitiya, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Nepal, as Chief Guest. Representatives from SriLankan Airlines, General Sales Agents, digital travel platforms, the Nepal Tourism Board and the Nepal Association of Tour & Travel Agents (NATTA) also participated.

Following the AGM, TAASL hosted a networking session attended by more than 100 industry representatives. Discussions focused on strengthening Sri Lanka-Nepal tourism links, exploring joint promotional opportunities and expanding B2B cooperation between the two markets.

With its new leadership, TAASL is set to continue its focus on industry advocacy, international partnerships and strengthening opportunities for Sri Lanka’s travel agency community.
