In a significant move to shape the future of aviation in Sri Lanka, the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL) conducted a highly engaging “Next Generation of Aviation Professionals (NGAP)” program for more than 200 undergraduates from Uva Wellassa University.

Held at the CAASL Auditorium, the event featured a dynamic panel discussion led by prominent figures from the country’s aviation and tourism sectors. Attendees later participated in an educational field visit to Bandaranaike International Airport, gaining firsthand insights into real-world aviation operations.

The expert panel included Mr. Rayhan Wanniappa, Acting Director General & CEO of CAASL; Capt. Daminda Rambukwella, Deputy Director General (Air Safety Regulation); Mr. Indunil Wijekoon, Regional Manager of SriLankan Airlines; Mr. Sampath Nishshanka, Managing Director of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB); and Mr. Shalutha R. Rathnayake, Airport Manager at Airport & Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Ltd. The session was moderated by Mr. Ishara Gunawerdena, Manager of Air Transport & Traffic Rights at CAASL.

The program was spearheaded by CAASL’s Civil Aviation Promotion Unit as part of the Authority’s broader mission to cultivate interest, build competencies, and nurture future leaders in aviation. The initiative received special recognition from Mr. Sunil Jayarathna, Chairman of CAASL, who attended the event as Chief Guest alongside other senior officials and representatives from Uva Wellassa University.

The NGAP program underscores CAASL’s dedication to investing in Sri Lanka’s youth and empowering the next generation of aviation professionals with knowledge, inspiration, and opportunity.
