Sri Lankan Delegation Participates in 65th IFATCA Annual Conference in Bucharest, Romania

The 65th Annual Conference of the International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers’ Associations (IFATCA) is currently being held from 20th to 24th April 2026 at the JW Marriott Hotel in Bucharest, Romania, under the theme: “Controllers – Attract them, Value them, Keep them.”

Representing Sri Lanka at this prestigious global forum are three active Air Traffic Controllers:

  • Rasika Ranjikumara – President, Air Traffic Controllers’ Association of Sri Lanka
  • Amani Amarasinghe – Association Council Member
  • Sasanka Kulasekara – Air Traffic Controller

Despite significant travel challenges arising from ongoing unrest in the Middle East region, the Sri Lankan delegation successfully reached Bucharest and is actively participating in conference proceedings.

This year’s conference theme strongly resonates with the current context in Sri Lanka’s Air Traffic Management sector. Like many regions worldwide, Sri Lanka is experiencing a gradual outflow of experienced Air Traffic Controllers seeking opportunities overseas. This trend is influenced by multiple factors, including career progression limitations and operational constraints within the existing management framework.

The participation of the Sri Lankan delegation at IFATCA 2026 reflects a continued commitment to engaging with the global ATC community, sharing experiences, and exploring sustainable strategies to attract, retain and value Air Traffic Controllers in alignment with international best practices.

Their presence ensures that Sri Lanka remains connected to evolving global standards while contributing constructively to discussions shaping the future of Air Traffic Management.
