Sri Lanka Welcomes 2 Millionth Tourist of the Year at Bandaranaike International Airport

Sri Lanka welcomed its 2 millionth tourist for the year today (17) at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), marking a major milestone for the country’s tourism sector. The arrival of a British couple pushed the total number of foreign tourists past the 2 million mark for 2025, according to the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority.

Sri Lanka reached the two-million mark on 26 December last year, but achieving the milestone earlier this year reflects strong and sustained growth in tourist arrivals. Industry forecasts indicate the country may reach around 2.5 million visitors by year-end, potentially the highest annual total in Sri Lanka’s tourism history.

India continues to lead as the top source market, with 443,622 arrivals recorded so far, compared to 416,974 last year.

This milestone highlights the ongoing recovery of the tourism industry and reinforces Sri Lanka’s position as a leading travel destination in the region.
