Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates held bilateral discussions on January 29 at the Ministry of Ports and Civil Aviation, with special emphasis on strengthening cooperation in the aviation sector.
The meeting between UAE Ambassador Khaled Nasser Alameri and Minister Anura Karunathilaka focused on developing Sri Lanka’s civil aviation industry through technical collaboration, investment, and capacity building. Particular attention was given to Sri Lanka’s skilled aviation engineering workforce and competitive operating costs, which were identified as key advantages.
Both parties discussed the possibility of establishing a regional aircraft maintenance and engineering hub in Sri Lanka, aimed at supporting airlines in the South Asian region. The Ambassador also invited the Minister to participate in the International Civil Aviation Leadership Program in Dubai in February.
The two sides agreed to continue close cooperation to build a strong, long-term partnership in aviation development and services.
