Sri Lanka is preparing to tap into the growing global demand for skilled aviation professionals as the international industry is expected to expand significantly over the next decade, particularly across the Asia-Pacific region.
Deputy Civil Aviation Minister Janitha Ruwan Kodithuwakku revealed this during a special podcast with Aviation Voice, noting that countries worldwide are preparing education and training programmes to address an anticipated shortage of qualified aviation personnel.
Plans are also progressing to establish a Regional Aviation Education and Training Centre in Sri Lanka, with support from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), which has expressed willingness to assist the initiative.
The government has allocated Rs. 600 million for the project following approval from the National Planning Department. Authorities are also working to secure international accreditation to ensure the centre operates in line with global aviation training standards.
