NGAP Sri Lanka Programme successfully conducted at Kandalama with the participation of ICAO APAC Regional Director Mr. Tao Ma

The Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL), through its Civil Aviation Promotion Unit, successfully conducted the Next Generation of Aviation Professionals (NGAP) Sri Lanka Programme on 27 June at D. S. Senanayake Maha Vidyalaya, Kandalama.

The programme was held under the leadership of the Director General of Civil Aviation and Chief Executive Officer of the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka, Captain Daminda Rambukwella.

Mr. Tao Ma, Regional Director of the ICAO Asia and Pacific Office, participated as the Chief Guest, reaffirming the continued cooperation between the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka in promoting aviation education and inspiring the next generation of aviation professionals.

Approximately 400 students from D. S. Senanayake Maha Vidyalaya and several other schools in the Galewela Educational Zone participated in the programme, gaining exposure to educational pathways and career opportunities in the aviation sector.

The event commenced with a Model Aircraft Flying Display, which generated significant interest among students while providing practical insight into basic aviation principles and aircraft operations.

An aviation-themed art competition was also held alongside the programme. During the exhibition, Mr. Tao Ma and Captain Rambukwella visited the students’ artwork and commended their creativity, talent, and enthusiasm towards aviation.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Tao Ma appreciated Sri Lanka’s continued efforts in promoting aviation awareness among schoolchildren and stressed the importance of developing the next generation of aviation professionals to support the sustainable growth of the global aviation industry.

Captain Daminda Rambukwella, speaking at the event, highlighted the importance of the NGAP Sri Lanka Programme in building the country’s future aviation workforce and encouraged students to explore the wide range of career opportunities available in the aviation sector.

The programme also included presentations by aviation professionals, interactive knowledge-sharing sessions, and educational activities aimed at enhancing students’ creativity, innovation, and understanding of the aviation industry.

The NGAP Sri Lanka Programme, implemented by the Civil Aviation Promotion Unit of CAASL, is a flagship initiative conducted across the country to promote aviation awareness, inspire youth, and support the development of Sri Lanka’s future aviation professionals.
