Former Indian cricket captain and World Cup winner Kapil Dev turned an ordinary flight into an unforgettable one when he was invited to pin the captain’s stripes on a newly promoted IndiGo pilot, Captain Priyanka, inside the aircraft.
The heartwarming moment, captured and shared by IndiGo’s official account on X (formerly Twitter), shows Kapil Dev placing the stripes on Captain Priyanka’s uniform, a gesture that perfectly symbolizes encouragement, respect and national pride.
India today boasts one of the highest proportions of female pilots in the world, with about 12.4% of airline pilots being women. IndiGo, the country’s largest carrier, leads by example with a team of 5,000 pilots, of whom nearly 750 are women, continuing to champion gender diversity and empowerment in aviation.
