IAASL Elects Mumthazer Mahir as New President at 38th AGM in Kathmandu

The IATA Agents Association of Sri Lanka (IAASL) has elected Mumthazer Mahir, Managing Director of The Travel Port (Pvt) Ltd, as its new President at the Association’s 38th Annual General Meeting (AGM), held on 17 September 2026 at the Dusit Princess Hotel in Kathmandu, Nepal.

The AGM brought together representatives from more than 60 travel companies, alongside key stakeholders from Sri Lanka’s aviation and travel trade sectors.

The event was attended by Her Excellency Ruwanthi Delpitiya, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Nepal, highlighting the importance of strengthening tourism and travel cooperation between Sri Lanka and Nepal.

Mahir, who has more than 36 years of experience in the travel and tourism industry, is recognised for his extensive experience in outbound tourism, airline distribution and travel agency operations.

Following his election, Mahir thanked IAASL members for their confidence and paid tribute to his mentor, Rizmi Reyal, Chairman of The Traveller Global (Pvt) Ltd, for his guidance and support throughout his career.

Representatives from SriLankan Airlines, including members of its GSA and online partner network, also participated in the AGM, reinforcing the importance of cooperation between the national carrier and Sri Lanka’s IATA-accredited travel agent community.

The gathering also included representatives from the Nepal Tourism Board and the Nepal Association of Tour & Travel Agents (NATTA), providing an opportunity for industry stakeholders from both countries to strengthen professional ties and explore areas of cooperation.

Key matters affecting Sri Lanka’s IATA travel agency community were discussed during the AGM, including industry developments, collaboration with airlines and tourism authorities, and opportunities to further strengthen the travel agency sector.

The IAASL represents IATA-accredited travel agents in Sri Lanka and serves as a platform for dialogue between travel agents, airlines, government institutions and other industry stakeholders.
