From a Little Wish to a Big Dream: Sarunya’s Aviation Day Takes Flight

Little Sarunya, a 12-year-old paediatric leukaemia patient from Jaffna, was given the opportunity through the Make-A-Wish Foundation to make one wish. Her wish was simple and heartfelt to meet a real pilot and see an aircraft.

What followed was far beyond what she could have imagined.

SriLankan Airlines organized a personalized event just for her with the support of Airport and Aviation Services (AASL), a from the moment she arrived at the airport, Sarunya was warmly welcomed by everyone, who made her feel truly special with thoughtful surprises, gifts and unforgettable moments.

Her surprise visit onboard UL 503 became one of the highlights of her day. Captain Amrick Varia warmly welcomed her into the cockpit, invited her to sit in his seat and proudly placed his captain’s cap on her, giving her a glimpse into the world she had dreamed of. Cabin Manager Lakmali De Silva and her crew welcomed her with the same warmth, making her feel like she belonged among her very own family.

Then came another surprise.

With the kind permission of Captain Chaminda De Zoysa, Captain Chamika Rupasinghe arranged a special simulator experience just for Sarunya. Seated beside the captain in the simulator cockpit, she experienced the excitement of an aircraft take-off and landing ,something she could never have imagined experiencing in a single day.

What began as a little girl’s wish became a day filled with kindness, compassion, aviation and hope for brighter future.

SriLankan Airlines where aviation goes beyond flying and where caring hearts come together to turn dreams into beautiful realities.
