Emirates Celebrates 40 Years of Flight: From Two Leased Jets to a Global Aviation Powerhouse

Forty years ago, on 25th October 1985, Emirates took off from Dubai on its very first flight to the world, not just marking the birth of an airline, but the beginning of a journey driven by ambition that has never stopped.
On that day, Emirates operated its inaugural flights from Dubai to Karachi and Mumbai. The services were operated using a Boeing 737 and an Airbus A300 B4 wet-leased from Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) a modest start that laid the foundation for what would become one of the world’s most successful and admired airlines.
From those early beginnings with two leased aircraft and four destinations, Emirates has grown into a global aviation leader with a fleet of 267 aircraft serving 152 cities worldwide, carrying over 53 million passengers annually.
