Dubai International Airport to Close by 2035, Operations Shifting to Al Maktoum International

Dubai International Airport (DXB), the world’s busiest international airport, has officially set 2035 as the date for its final closure, marking the end of an era in global aviation. Established in 1960, DXB currently handles over 92.3 million passengers annually but will soon pass the baton to Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) at Dubai World Central.

The move is part of a colossal £28 billion expansion plan, positioning DWC to become the world’s largest airport, with the capacity to handle up to 260 million passengers per year. Located about 38 miles from DXB and 22 miles from downtown Dubai, DWC will boast five parallel runways and up to 400 aircraft gates, welcoming home-based giants like Emirates and flydubai.
