Civil Aviation Deputy Minister Inspects Progress of BIA Terminal 1 Expansion Project

Deputy Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation Janitha Ruwan Kodituwakku conducted an inspection tour of the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) on 5 August 2026 to review the progress of the Terminal 1 modernization and expansion project.

During the visit, the Deputy Minister assessed the installation of new check-in counters, the reorganization of commercial spaces and measures aimed at improving passenger services. He stressed the importance of completing the project on schedule while maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency.

Once completed, the expansion funded entirely by Airports and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Ltd. is expected to increase BIA’s passenger handling capacity, reduce congestion and provide a more modern and efficient travel experience, further supporting the growth of Sri Lanka’s aviation and tourism sectors.
