CEYPETCO had sufficient jet fuel for flights despite train strike

Despite 12 train services with fuel carriages not operating between Kolonnawa and Bandaranaike International Airport, CEYPETCO Aviation unit assured it had sufficient JET A-1 fuel for daily flights.

An official from CEYPETCO told the Daily Mirror that they have enough JET A-1 fuel stocks to last three days and are providing additional supply through bowsers.

The CEYPETCO Aviation unit currently accommodates three tanks, each with a capacity of 2.6 million liters.

Additionally, the official noted that the monopoly on supplying petroleum products for aviation purposes has been broken, with three separate companies now ensuring a continuous fuel supply.
“The private fuel companies provide ten bowsers of JET A-1 fuel daily, while CEYPETCO provides one,” he said.

Additionally, a senior official from the Railways Department mentioned that the department incurs significant losses due to the halt in sending fuel carriages to Kolonnawa and the Bandaranaike International Airport.

He noted that ten fuel carriages, each with a capacity of 10,000 gallons, are usually attached to the train to supply fuel to the airport daily.
