The Cabinet of Ministers has granted approval for the development of Higurakgoda Airport as a full-fledged airport in accordance with international civil aviation standards.
The Department of Government Information said that since the need to develop Higurakgoda Airport in accordance with international civil aviation standards has been recognized, a committee had been appointed from the representatives of Sri Lanka Air Force, Sri Lanka Civil Aviation Authority, Airports and Aviation Limited (Sri Lanka) (Private) Company and Road Development Authority for preparing the master plan for the purpose.
Accordingly, the Cabinet approved the joint proposal presented by the President as the Minister of Defense and the Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation Nimal Siripala de Silva to take necessary steps to develop Higurakgoda Airport as a full-fledged airport, as per the recommendations of the said committee, the statement said. – Ada Derana
