CAASL Releases Preliminary Report on Cinnamon Air Seaplane Accident at Gregory Lake

The Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL) has issued the Preliminary Report into the accident involving a Cessna 208 Caravan (4R-CAE) operated by Saffron Aviation (Pvt) Ltd under the call sign Cinnamon Air 901.

The aircraft was operating a domestic flight from Bandaranaike International Airport to Gregory Lake on 7 January 2026 when it was involved in an accident during a water landing attempt in gusty wind conditions.

There were no passengers on board at the time. Both flight crew members evacuated safely, with one sustaining minor injuries. The aircraft sustained substantial structural damage.

The Aircraft Accident Investigation Board (AAIB) has commenced a formal investigation in accordance with ICAO Annex 13. The investigation remains ongoing, and a final report with analysis and safety recommendations will be issued in due course.
