CAASL Denies Social Media Claims Over SriLankan Airlines Flight UL1213 to Rome

The Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL) has rejected claims circulating on social media regarding SriLankan Airlines flight UL1213, which departed for Rome on March 9.

In a statement, the authority said the flight was operated to assist passengers who had originally booked travel to Europe and beyond via the Middle East, enabling them to travel directly to Rome. The flight also helped repatriate tourists and Sri Lankan passengers who were stranded in Europe.

CAASL emphasized that allegations linking the flight to plans to transport a government minister are false, noting that the minister mentioned in social media posts had already arrived in Sri Lanka several days earlier.

The authority further stated that spreading such misinformation could damage the reputation of Sri Lanka’s aviation sector and warned that legal action may be taken against individuals or social media activists who publish false claims.
