President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has declared electricity, fuel supply, ports and aviation among essential services through an extraordinary gazette notification.
The declaration was issued under Section 2 of the Essential Public Services Act, No. 61 of 1979, in view of the severe adverse weather conditions affecting the country.
Authorities stated that the move is aimed at ensuring the uninterrupted provision of critical services and maintaining normal public life during the prevailing situation.
