Eight years ago today, on April 18, 2018, the world’s largest aircraft, the Antonov An-225 Mriya, made a memorable stop at Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport, landing to refuel and provide rest for its crew.
The Ukrainian-built cargo giant arrived in Sri Lanka while operating a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Karachi, drawing significant attention from aviation enthusiasts across the country.
Tragically, the iconic aircraft was destroyed in February 2022 during the Russia-Ukraine conflict, marking the loss of one of aviation’s most remarkable creations.
