Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Private) Limited (AASL) has appealed to the public not to fly kites in the vicinity of airports, warning that the activity poses a significant safety risk to aircraft during take-off and landing.
According to AASL, kites flown near airport zones can interfere with flight operations and potentially endanger passengers, flight crews, and aircraft.
The airport operator reminded the public that kite flying should be enjoyed only in open areas located well away from airports, stressing that even a single kite entering an aircraft’s flight path could create a hazardous situation.
AASL also emphasized that public cooperation is essential to maintaining aviation safety, noting that a simple act of responsibility can help protect lives and ensure the safe operation of flights across the country’s airports.
