Construction has commenced on a USD 40.84 million aviation fuel pipeline and storage project connecting Muthurajawela with Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
Implemented by the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) and Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminals Limited (CPSTL), the project includes a 21-kilometre underground Jet A-1 pipeline and five new aviation fuel storage tanks with a combined capacity of 92,000 cubic metres.
The pipeline will transport aviation fuel directly from Muthurajawela to BIA, improving supply reliability while reducing transportation costs.
A separate CPSTL project will add three petroleum storage tanks, providing another 40,000 cubic metres of storage capacity.
Together, the projects will add eight new tanks with a total capacity of 132,000 cubic metres, strengthening Sri Lanka’s fuel storage and aviation fuel supply infrastructure.
The aviation fuel project is expected to be completed within 30 months, while the petroleum storage expansion is scheduled for completion in April 2028.
